On September 12\u201313, 2025, the EurAvocat network held its Annual Conference and Annual General\u00a0Meeting (AGM) hosted by Magda Kapoti-Tazedaki in Athens, the cradle of democracy.\u00a0<\/span>The historic\u00a0<\/span>city offered an inspiring backdrop for our discussions on law, professional exchange, and the role\u00a0<\/span>of our network in a changing Europe.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The General Assembly on September 12 brought important developments.Members unanimously approved the expansion of the Board with Ana\u00efs Abdel Sattar and Stepan Holub, thereby strengthening EurAvocat\u2019s leadership.<\/p>

A special moment was the admission of Dr. Judit Szeg\u0151, attorney-at-law from Budapest, who joins as successor to Dr. Be\u00e1ta Gazdag. Be\u00e1ta, retiring due to age, was honored for her pioneering role: she was the first female member of EurAvocat and, after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the first member from an Eastern European country. Her contribution to the network was warmly recognized and celebrated.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

This was followed by an interactive workshop where members, working in small groups, used AI tools to analyze recent judgments of the European Court of Justice. On September 13 and 14, 2024, the EurAvocat Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place in The Hague, a key center for international law. Known as the “City of Peace and Justice” The Hague, with institutions like the International Criminal Court and the Peace Palace, provided the perfect setting for our meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Annual General Meeting commenced with a remarkable visit to the International Criminal Court (ICC), an institution that stands as a beacon of international justice. Participants were treated to an in-depth presentation covering the court\u2019s historical development, its jurisdiction, and its operational framework. This exclusive tour offered us a unique glimpse into the inner workings of the ICC. As we walked through the architecturally sophisticated halls of this monumental court, we gained invaluable insights into the crucial role the ICC plays in prosecuting some of the gravest crimes known to humanity\u2014genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Witnessing firsthand the mechanisms that drive this essential institution was a profoundly enlightening and humbling experience.<\/p>

This was followed by an interactive training session on the practical application of Artificial Intelligence in the legal field, with a focus on tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and CoPilot. <\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Saturday morning was dedicated to the AGM itself, where the President, Treasurer, and Auditor presented their reports on the past year. The Treasurer, Secretary-General, and Auditors were unanimously re-elected. <\/span><\/p>

Furthermore, the admission of two new members was unanimously approved and warmly welcomed: Stepan Holub from Holubova Law Firm in Prague and Mihail Macovei from Stalfort Law Firm with offices in Bucharest, Sibiu and Bistrita. <\/span><\/p>

The afternoon was dedicated to cultural activities, including a visit to the Mauritshuis, where participants marveled at Jan Vermeer\u2019s painting \u201cGirl with a Pearl Earring\u201d and further world-famous masterpieces.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

This was followed by a city tour, concluding with a visit to the Peace Palace, the symbolic and actual heart of international law.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Here, we received a comprehensive introduction to the prestigious institutions housed within this iconic building, including the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration. This profoundly moving experience left us all deeply inspired. The spirit of international justice and peace that permeated the atmosphere made a lasting impression on each of us.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

In the summer heat of Cyprus, one of the most poignant moments of the conference was the transition of leadership during the members’ Annual General Meeting. Outgoing President @Hans Pijnacker handed over the reins to the newly elected President @Thierry Schwenk. EurAvocat\u2019s members extended the gratitude to Hans for his successful term of office, during which he played a pivotal role in attracting new members from across Europe, including @Bernard Felten from Luxembourg, @Peter Zajac from Slovakia, and @Agata Adamczyk from Poland.<\/span><\/p>

During Hans’ presidency, EurAvocat started several initiatives like the Europe-wide “Debt Collection Handbook” providing an insight in debt collection practices across borders, benefiting both legal professionals and the clients they serve. We gathered on Friday 17 September in the NOI Restaurant in the basement of the Nobis Hotel, where most of the participants stayed over the weekend. We were served a glass of cava and a tuna fish salad together with a glass of wine.After the lunch, the members took a short walk to the office of Schj\u00f8dt where we listened to a speak on Corporate Governance by Bj\u00f6rn Kristiansson (via video link from Gotland), a speak on avoidance law by Hans Renman and received information about the recent developments in CISG by Thierry Schwenck.\u00a0The spouses took the underground to the K.A Almgren silk weaving mill and museum, which seems to have been very interesting.In the evening, we once again gathered at Nobis Hotel and then had a short walk down to the water and M\/S \u00d6stan\u00e5 I and a dinner tour through parts of the Stockholm archipelago. We were served a three course meny with cheese gnocchi, ox cheek and pannacotta together with selected wines.On Saturday morning, the members once again went to the Schj\u00f8dt office for the AGM, where Hans Pijnacker was elected new president of the group and it was decided that the 2022 meeting shall be held in Brussels.The spouses took the tram to Waldemarsudde, the art museum of Prince Eugen of Sweden, where they had a guided tour of one of the exhibitions. The museum was much appreciated.The members and the spouses then gathered at the Vasa Museum where we first have a two-course lunch with veal and perch accompanied with a glass of wine and after that coffee and some chocolate. After the lunch we visited the museum using audioguide.In the evening, we took a short walk (or the bus) from the hotel to Sj\u00f6fartshuset, a 17th century building at Skeppsbron in the Old Town, where we had some champagne and a three-course dinner with lobster, reindeer and cloudberries accompanied by selected wines and coffee.
